Detroit laneway festival 2013 900x600

Laneway Festival storms Detroit

Our first foray into Detroit, Mich. on Saturday was a major success, with over 7,500 music fans enjoying an incredible day of music in near perfect weather.

The event was widely praised by fans and the media alike for its picturesque location, attention to detail and the curation of an eclectic, quality line-up that included CHVRCHES, Flume, Deerhunter, Sigur Ros and The National.

Danny Rogers, festival co-founder and booker says: "Our first venture into North America could not have gone better. We were always confident that the people of Detroit would embrace this event. Not only did they come out in droves to see their fave bands but local artists, designers, painters and chefs turned on the hospitality of the region and all demonstrated why the city is on the brink of a major revival."

“The first Laneway Festival Detroit was a tremendous success, not only for Detroit, but on an international stage,” said Lucinda Treat, Palace Sports & Entertainment executive vice president for Business Operations and Strategy. “We had a vision to deliver a thrilling experience for music lovers and we look forward to building from the solid foundation we’ve established with this inaugural event for Laneway in 2014.”

“Laneway’s flag has been planted in Detroit…This wasn’t about the scene, the extracurricular partying or any sideshow frills, though all existed to one extent or another. The focus at Laneway, rather, was genuinely on the music, as the fest delivered a high-class batch of sounds and lived up to its billing as an event to please connoisseurs.” – Brian McCollum, Detroit Free Press

“But more than any individual performances, the inaugural Laneway was mostly about building a base from which the festival can grow. The fest’s stamp is in its programming, with smart indie rock acts filling the bill and attracting a literate, respectful clientele…With a good start in the books, Laneway is on the right path to creating a new legacy for itself.” – Adam Graham, Detroit News

"Thanks to the Laneway Festival for having us. It's a great festival. It's such a well-curated event, we spent the whole day trying to decide what bands we should see" - Matt Beringer, The National
